The Kenyan National School was initially known as Francis Scott High School. It opened its doors in 1927, and it was until 1963, that Nakuru Boys High School was given its current name and began admitting learners of African origin.
Enclosed within about 200 acres, the school only accepted the children of the British administrators and white settles spread across the vast farmlands. It started as a boarding school, but “day bergs” residing around the facility were also enrolled.
A year after independence, the administration opened up to the first lot of girls, making it the country’s only Co-educational National School. As students from different areas and backgrounds strived to gain quality education, the population within the highly reputable institution increased rapidly.
As a result, the stakeholders called for its division so that the girl-child could also enjoy quality learning opportunities. Despite parting ways, Nakuru High School KCSE performance for both the Boys’ and Girls’ schools have been admirable.
Over the years, Nakuru High School has gained the attributes and resources necessary to deliver quality education, and the best results. Currently, it is one of the best public secondary schools in Nakuru county, and the nation at large. Many notable politicians, athletes, artists, and industry experts came from here. Its holistic approach to the development of learners not only emphasizes on academic excellence but also on success in co-curricular activities.

The top-performing school has once again posted impressive results in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, exams.
The good news is that a majority of the candidates scored a mean grade of C+ (plus) and above. This means that they will be joining the university in 2024.
The school has been ranked at position nationally after garnering a Mean Score of 10.42 points which translates to a mean grade of B+{plus}.
