The Ministry of education has released the 2024 revised school calendar (Revised 2024 term dates) for all primary and secondary schools in Kenya. In the revised dates, all PP1 and 2; Grade 1, 2 and 3; Class 5, 6 and 7; and Form2, 3 and 4 learners will resume 2024 term one on January 8, 2024 and close on April 5, 2024, for 13 weeks.
Schools will then proceed for half term on February 29 to March 3 for 3 days.
They will then go for the April holiday beginning April 8 to May 13th; which will be four weeks.
Term two will begin from May 13th to August 2 a period of 13 weeks and proceed for half term from June 20 to June 23.
They will then close for the August holiday from August 5 to August 23 which is three weeks.
In term three schools will begin the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and the Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment from October 28 to October 31 which is four days.
The KCSE examination will run from November 4 to November 22 which is three weeks.
Schools will then proceed for the December Holiday from October 2024 to January 3 ten weeks.
The calendar for teachers training college includes a Diploma in Teachers Education (Secondary), a Diploma in Primary Teacher Education and a Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education.
For term one they will open on January 8 and close on April 5; 13 weeks.
They will thereafter proceed for the April holiday from April 8 to May 6. weeks.
In term two, the colleges will open on April 29 and close on August 2 14 weeks.
August holiday will begin on August 5 to August 30 four weeks.
Term three will begin on August 26 to November 8 which is 11 weeks.
December holiday will start from November 11 2024 to January 3, 2025, which is eight weeks.

Past School Term Dates
“Following the stake-holders’ consultation, the revised term dates were agreed on in order to cover the remaining two terms of 2020 school calendar and stabilize school calendar by December 2020.” Reads a circular by the Ministry of Education and titled;
‘RE: SCHOOL CALENDARS FOR YEARS 2020, 2021, 2022 AND 2023- REVISED TERM DATES FOR PRE-PRIMARY, PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS AND TEACHERS TRAINING COLLEGES’.
According to the revised term dates, there will be no half term in second term as the teachers race against time to recover lost time; occasioned by the prolonged closure of schools due to the covid 19 pandemic.
Term 3 of 2020 will kick off on May 5, 2021 to July 16, 2021. Both Term 2 and 3 have been shortened and will run for 11 and 7 weeks; respectively.
The Ministry directs that all 4 year old kids will join PP1 in July, 2021 instead of January. Meanwhile, Grade 4 CBC learners will transit to Grade 5 in July, 2021.
Further, Grade 4 and incoming form one class (class 8 graduates) will stay at home as other learners complete their term 3; resume in July, 2021.
