TSC Minet Medical Scheme Benefits For Teachers

National Assembly Education Committee is mulling over terminating a Ksh53B medical insurance scheme for teachers issued to Minet Insurance by Teachers Service Commission in December 2022. The members of Parliament claim the medical scheme is a raw deal to teachers.

The MPs, on Tuesday, engaged top officials of firms responsible for providing Medical insurance for our teachers. The meeting saw heated debate as the MPs shot tough questions at the officials.

However, the MPs had to turn away the CEO of MINET Insurance Brokers, Officials from Bliss Health Care (K)LTD and Medical Administrators K LTD for appearing unprepared to respond to concerns raised on the 14 billion insurance cover they offer to teachers.

The key issues they failed to provide satisfying responses were the challenges faced by teachers in accessing treatment at select hospitals, and the disparity of the cover between that being given to teachers and that of other public servants including Members of Parliament.

Their response that they face challenges of rogue service providers and sheer volume of clientele didn’t go well with the committee.

Teachers have decried the poor services offered at the Minet contracted health providers like Bliss Clinics. Other concerns include failure of Minet to approve medical services to the teachers; even during emergencies.

The MPs have asked them to appear before the Committee again next week; accompanied with their technical officers to respond comprehensively to queries raised by teachers through Members of the committee.
