How to apply for the new generation plates

The NTSA has directed all Motor Vehicle owners to apply for the new generation number plates. The application is purely online and very easy.

What you need in order to apply for the new generation number plates

Before proceeding to apply for the new generation number plates, ensure you have the following:

1. Copies of your original logbook and number plates in pdf format.
2. Kshs 3,050 which is the application fee (3,000) and Mpesa charges (Sh50).

1. Visit
www.ntsa.go.ke
2. Select motor vehicle registration

3. Log into your account

4. Select Apply for reflective plates, select the vehicle and click Next

5. You will be asked to give a reason for the application.

6. Choose your preferred method of being notified.

7. Choose a number plate and format, whether oblong or square

8. In PDF format, upload copies of your original logbook and old license plates (rear and front).

9. Select your collection centre, and enter the ID number of the person who will collect it

10. Pay the Ksh.3,050 fee
and confirm.

11. Once your plates are ready, you will receive a notification to go and collect them at your chosen centre.

Detailed application process for the new generation number plates

1. A motor vehicle owner/ user will have to log into their NTSA Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS) account.

2. Then, you will select your vehicle registration and click on the ‘apply for reflective plates’ tab.

3. Next, Select the vehicle, then click on the reason for the application.

4. Next, choose whether to be notified via text on your mobile number or via email.

5. Depending on the shape of your car at the front and rear, you choose the number plate and format. They give two options; square and oblong.

6. In the next step you will be expected to upload (in PDF) your vehicle’s original logbook and a picture of both your number plates.

7. You will be required to select your collection centre and fill in the Identification number of the person who will be collecting it.

8. Before logging out of your TMIS account, you will be required to pay via Mpesa. The fee is Sh3,050.

9. After payment is successful, you will be notified via text when the new plates are ready for collection.

Please note that this process can take at least seven days.
