2024 Revised & Final School Calendar (2024 Term Dates)

The Ministry of Education has released the revised and final school academic calendar for 2024; for pre-primary, primary, secondary schools and teachers training colleges with reporting dates set for January 8 across the four levels. 

Students will be reporting after a 10-week break party triggered by assessments administered by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

Pre-school, primary school, and secondary schools will have a first term lasting 13 weeks and a half term lasting 3 days between February 29 and March 3, 2024.

“Term two will run for 14 weeks, starting on 29^th April to 2^nd August, 2024 with the half term set for 20^th – 23^rd August, 2024,” the ministry stated in a bulletin detailing term dates released on Friday.

The third term, which runs from August 26 to October 25, 2024, will be the shortest, lasting just 9 weeks. Learners will then take a break and resume on January 3, 2025.

KNEC-administered Kenya Intermediate Education Assessment (KILEA) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will start on October 28 through October 31, 2024.

“Exams for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) will be held from November 4 to November 22, 2024,” read the report.

Teachers’ training colleges will end their first term on 5th April, 2024 and break for holidays from 8th to 26th April 2024.

The second term will run from 29th April to 2nd August 2024 while the final term will run from 26th August to 8th November, 2024.

Term One Term Dates

• first term will run from January 23 up to April 21, 2023.
• There will be a three-day first term mid-term break from March 16 to March 19.
• First term holiday will be between April 22 and May 7, 2023.

Term Two Term Dates

• Second term will run from May 8 to August 11, 2023.
• Second term half-term break will be on June 29 to July 2, 2023.
• Second term holiday: From August 12 up to August 27, 2023.

Term Three Term Dates

• Term 3 will run from August 28 up to October 27, 2023.
• There will be no half term break for the learners in term 3.
• Term 3 December Holiday For Learners not taking National Exams: October 28, 2023 to January 8, 2024.

2023 National Examinations Period:

• 2023 KCPE and KPSEA Exams: KCPE candidates and Grade Six learners (KPSEA) will sit for their Knec exams from October 30, 2023 to November 2, 2023.
• 2023 KCSE examinations will begin on November 3, 2023 and run up to November 24, 2023.
• Marking of National Exams to end by December 15, 2023.
