The Kenya National Examinations, Knec, has announced new measures to curb cheating during this year’s national exams. Knec CEO David Njengere has issued several guidelines ahead of the 2024 national examinations.
According to the CEO, KCSE examinations will be done twice each day and the papers collected twice each day.
He said the morning paper will be collected and after it is completed, it will be returned as they collect the second paper.
Njegere spoke on Monday during the launch of the examination seasons at the KNEC headquarters.
“With effect from this year’s exams, the collection of the KCSE examination papers will be done twice from the container,” Njegere said.
Further, 567 containers will be used for the distribution of KCSE papers.
“The council has acquired an additional 82 containers to make sure we facilitate this process especially because we have 13 newly created sub-counties which did not have containers,” Njengere said.
He said the council has mapped all examination centres to the nearest distribution points so that every school is able to pick its examination paper more efficiently.
“The mapping of the examination centres will mean that some centres will pick their examination materials from neighbouring subcounties or neighbouring counties,” he said.
The CEO has also said unauthorized personnel will not be allowed in any examination centres.
“To enhance the security of the examination process, please note that no unauthorized person will be allowed in any examination centre except the centre managers, supervisors and invigilators. Please help us to enforce that to the latter,” Njengere said.
He said centre managers will be required to prepare a list of all support staff on duty and a list to be submitted to the sub-county directors of education before the start of the exam period.
Further, he said the council will be mounting a comprehensive briefing and sensitization of all the persons involved in the administration of exams from October 2 to 6.
“We are appealing to all of you that you attend these briefing sessions in person. Please do not delegate,” he said.
“We will also be embarking on our usual monitoring of our examinations and we want to encourage all of you to make sure that when the examinations start, you go round the centres to ensure there is strict adherence to the procedures and regulations of exams administration.”
