CS Owalo launches the National Invitational basketball tournament.

TWELVE top teams (12) in both the men and women category will battle it out in the inaugural Eliud Owalo Invitational Basketball Tournament.

The three day event – the biggest tournament ever in the land – will be played May 10, 11 and 12 at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, Langata and Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium.

And this afternoon the ICT CS Eliud Owalo launched the event in a function at Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium in presence of all team representatives. It’s now all systems go from now on.

The CS announced that the event’s winners in both the categories will bag kshs 300,000, runners up kshs 200,000 and third kshs 100,000 as well as 40,000 for the fourth placed side.

Waziri also made it clear that all the 144+ players who participates in this tournament- expected to be a game changer- will have something to carry home when it all comes to a close.

“At the Foundation, we believe that Sports can play a pivotal role in creating opportunities and positively shaping the lives of the youth.” he said.

During the launch, the CS was accompanied by Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) chairman Paul Otula, former national team players, including Ronnie Owino, Morris Aluanga, Catherine Shava, Angela Luchivya and Abraham Muthogo.

Veteran players Michael Riziki, Dick Jawichre, Sylvia Kamau, Dann Owerre, Caleb Osewe and Ken Kodula all members of the committee also graced the occasion.

EOF officials were also in attendance -Jane Opondo (Communications & resource mobilisation), Linda Owino (Administration)
Kennedy Mbogo (Executive Director) and Geoffrey Agwenge (Branding).

Long serving KBF boss hailed the CS effort to support the game in a big way and assured the game will see success like never before.

Leading the men’s team are- national champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), Equity Bank Dumas, Ulinzi Warriors, Nairobi City Thunder, United states International University (USIU) and Strathmore University Blades.

Leading the ladies charge are champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), Zetech University Sharks, Equity Bank Hawks, Strathmore University Swords, United States International University (USIU) Flames and Storms.

Considering that the Play Offs are just around the corner, this will be a battle like no other. The stakes are high and the teams are already shaping up for this mother of all BB tournaments.

Forget about all that you have seen during the Kenya National Basketball League (KNBL) games over the months, this one will be different.

The top four teams in the two categories will take home prize money. there will be medals and certificates for all the participating teams. ever seen this before in any tournament?

The EOF mission is to empower the Kenyan communities through a strategic partnership that improve standards of living by ensuring access to education, healthcare, food, clean water and sustainable livelihood.

Achieving sporting excellence ia another one of the EOF mandates and qe so thia by identifying and facilitating the optimal utilization if youth potential in sports activities.

The shots will fall from downtown and uptown. The rims will be roasted with high flying slams.
There will be transition all over the floor and above all basketball will be fan again.

This tournament marks the second series in the EOF initiatives. It follows the successful Nyanza School’s Tournament held in early March that attracted 26 school teams from six counties

For three days, the city will come to life. And this there is no doubt about!
