Team Profile: Agoro Sare High School’s Basketball 5×5 Team

Agoro Sare Boys are in buoyant mood ahead of the 2024 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association, KSSSA, National Term one games.

The boys go to Machakos with a mission of winning their maiden national title.

The Oyugis based sports’ power house are the Nyanza Region’s Champions; after overcoming fierce rivals Maseno School 51-44 in a high octane final.

The ‘Yenga’ Boys floored Siaya’s Sawagongo, Kisii champs and regulars Nyanchwa boys and former national champions Maseno school at the preliminaries; before seeing off Ototo Mixed and Maseno school at the semis and final respectively.

The Benson Ochieng & Paul Odok coached boys last played in the National KSSSA games in 2019; at Shimo La Tewa High where they finished third after Laiser Hill and Dagoretti High. In the run-up to the nationals, that year, Agoro narrowly outwitted Maseno School 56-54 in a nail biting Nyanza regional final played at Homa Bay School.

Agoro have had an impressive performance so far, this year. In the Eliud Owalo Basketball tournament, played on 2nd and 3rd March, they defeated archrivals Onjiko 64-27 in a pulsating final. They had earlier on shrugged off Nyanchwa Boys 64-27 at the Semis.

At the Homa Bay County games, this year, Agoro ran riot and handed Ototo Mixed a 107-16 defeat to emerge champs again.

At Machakos, Agoro Sare have been drawn in pool B alongside; Central Region’s Pioneer High, Dr. Aggrey (Coast Region) and Sigalame Boys High School from the Western Region.

Mouth watering clashes are on the offing as titans battle it out for the national title and a chance to represent the Country at the East Africa Secondary Schools’ Games (FEASSSA); which will be held in Uganda later this year.
